Great news for all artistic high school students out there. CFA, in cooperation with Dong-A and Faber Castell Philippines, will hold a contest series with the goal of imparting Gospel values and empowering creativity among the youth. Dubbed “KAMADA 2014” (Kabataang Malikhain at Dalubhasa), KAMADA will start with an on-the-spot cover design contest. High school students will be given a chance to design the covers of CFA magazines.

Gospel K Magazine also known as Gospel Komiks Magazine is meant for high school students as a supplemental reading material for Christian Living classes and religious instruction. Presenting the Sunday Gospel by way of true-to-life stories, Gospel K addresses young readers’ interests and their concerns about faith. On the other hand, Gospel Now Magazine caters to late-high school and early college readers, but most adults will find it appealing as well. It is intended to make the study of the Gospels “layman-friendly” reflected in its slogan – “Everyday Gospel for everyday people.”

KAMADA 2014 is a one day event on the spot cover making contest that will be held at CFA, 4427 Old Sta. Mesa St. Sta Mesa, Manila on October 3, 2014 (Friday). All high school students wanting to join the contest must register first on the website http://bit.ly/KAMADA2014. The first place and second place artworks will be the cover of Gospel K Magazine and Gospel Now Magazine respectively for the December-January issues. Cash prizes will also be given to the top three winners. All students joining the contest will get free drawing and art supplies courtesy of Dong-A and Faber Castell. KABATAAN: “Nasa VOLUNTEER-ZONE ka na ba?” Champs V-Zone

Standard

Champs V-ZoneVolunteerism is the first step to becoming an engaged citizen. It is an essential part of society which enables it to function effectively. Presently, one best example of this is the magnitude of volunteer work extended to the Typhoon Yolanda victims in the Visayas. It motivates and inspires others to participate and do the same. The possibilities for civic engagement is limitless. Helping one’s needy fellowmen improves, strengthens and unifies society.

Based on a survey conducted by the Communication Foundation for Asia (CFA) for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), there was only a small turnout of youth volunteers in the 2013 elections. There is presently an awareness deficiency that needs to be addressed. To reinforce and maintain a constant level of awareness of volunteerism, especially among the youth, the CFA, in partnership with PPCRV launches another project called “NASA V-ZONE KA NA BA?” (“Are You in the V-Zone Yet?”). It features the CHAMPS 2: Our Light Shall Rise and Libreng Concert Para sa Kabataang Bida (A Free Engagement Party for the Filipino Youth).

As PPCRV’s chairperson Ambassador Henrietta de Villa put it, “The CHAMPs – Jessa, Lexa, Cyberoid, Nemesis, Mang Bok against Ratdago, the tradpol – were successful in putting the corrupt politician behind bars and through unyielding voters’ education on responsible voting helped to get a young candidate Roger Pili elected. The CHAMPs determined to push good governance into the consciousness and involvement of the citizens now move forward responsible citizenship through their Follow Your Vote campaign. But alas, new problems arise in Pook Digawa… Abangan!”

The Libreng Concert Para sa Kabataang Bida is to be held on March 7, 2014 starting at 6:00 PM at CFA, with guests Moonstar88, Jett Pangan and Paolo Santos. One of its highlights would be the awarding ceremony of the winners of the MTV Songwriting Competition. The competition drew original songs for the youth by the youth. CFA has always looked at young people as BIDAs:
B – believes in holiness and heroism;
I – instrumental to change;
D – develops one’s greatness for the common good; and
A – advocates kindness and good deeds.

The one-night activity is also an opportunity for our young people to discover and find areas of interests to commit their time and talents, and for different advocacy groups to present their cause and enlist commitments. The participating advocacy groups are Youth for Sustainable Development Assembly (YSDA), Philippine Red Cross, Youth Pinoy, Hands On Manila, U! Happy Events, Educational Research Development Assistance Foundation (ERDA) and the National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA). All this happens in an evening of fun and wholesome entertainment! “NASA V-ZONE KA NA BA?” encourages today’s youth to espouse volunteerism and service, become engaged citizens and participate more actively in the community.
