KWENTRATO’S TOP 5

CFA’S KWENTRATO: Mga Kwentong BIDA sa Litrato have challenged our Gospel K Magazine readers to visualize the true meaning of BIDA through photo essays. BIDA stands for B – Banal at Bayani, I-Instrumento ng pagbabago, D-Dinadakila ang kakayahan para sa iba, and A-Adbokasiya ng kagandahang-asal at kabutihang-loob.

Here are the top five (5) high school photo-essayists:

Back in the August-September 2014 issue of Gospel Komiks and Gospel K Magazine, we challenged our readers to make a poem about their love for Jesus. A poem made by a grade 9 student from Saint Michael Academy of Catarman, Northern Samar caught the eye of our writers and editors. Written by Regine Valerie Arcebuche Arninio, the poem is an honest and open expression of her love and relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

My Best Friend Jesus

I know He’s always there for me, even though I couldn’t see.
I know that He’s inside my heart
and no one can be able to break us apart.

When I am lonely and depressed,
He’ll comfort me and make me feel blessed.
And when I cry due to my fears,
He’d make me stop and wipe my tears

He comforts me when I’m sad,
He’s also there when I am glad.
He calms me down when I am angry
and teaches me how to say sorry.

I’m so lucky He’s my best friend.
I know His love for me will never end.
And I also want to let you know,
my best friend Jesus is your best friend, too.

Two students from Saint Vincent School, Quirino create their own rendition of “How Great is Our God” by Chris Tomlin

In this month’s issue of the Gospel Komiks and Gospel K Magazine’s Rakrakang Papuri we challenged our readers to make their own cover of the song “How Great is Our God” by Chris Tomlin.

Two grade 9 students namely Danna Jean dela Cruz Udan and Divine Joy Cordon Pili from Saint Vincent School, Maddela, Quirino accepted and uploaded their video on YouTube. You can watch their performance through the embedded YouTube video above.

The KAMADA 2014 On the Spot Cover Contest Winners

CFA held its first on-the-spot design contest, dubbed KAMADA 2014, on October 3 in CFA’s Lagerwey Hall. The acronym stands for “KAbataang MAlikhain at DAlubhasa.”

2nd Place Winner Angela D. Peralta

The contest, which brought in more than 125 high school students from 30 different schools, had for its theme “Living out the compassion of God by showing preferential option for the poor.” Crown Supply Corporation, local distributor of Dong-A and Faber-Castell art products, sponsored the event.

Twelve students made it to the list of finalists. They were: Jamia Mai Tolentino, St. Stephen’s High School; James Panaguiton, Marist School, Marikina; Shane Kaye B. Buscas, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Cainta; Adrian B. Baquiran, St. Louis College; Arren Jesther Ellazar, Nazareth School of National University; Sophia Villamayor, Immaculate Heart of Mary College, Quezon City; Esperanza Gabrielle Q. Villa and Joanna Marie R. Bechayda, Paco Catholic School; Amanda Anja Contreras, St. Paul College Pasig; Mia Antonia Ramos, Mater Carmeli School; and Maria Laetitia Mendoza and Alexandra Anne Brigino, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Marikina.

3rd Place Winner Frances Robina To

The top awards went to Amiel Chua from Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School (Dong-A’s Choice), Frances Robina To, Saint Jude Catholic School (3rd place), Angela D. Peralta, Siena College of Taytay (2nd place), and Christian Lemuel P. Ibongas, St. James Academy of Malabon City (1st place). The two top-winning works will be featured as covers of CFA’s Gospel K and Gospel Now magazines for December-January.

CFA and Crown Supply Corporation are planning a future second version.

On the Spot Cover Making Contest

Great news for all artistic high school students out there. CFA, in cooperation with Dong-A and Faber Castell Philippines, will hold a contest series with the goal of imparting Gospel values and empowering creativity among the youth. Dubbed “KAMADA 2014” (Kabataang Malikhain at Dalubhasa), KAMADA will start with an on-the-spot cover design contest. High school students will be given a chance to design the covers of CFA magazines.

Gospel K Magazine also known as Gospel Komiks Magazine is meant for high school students as a supplemental reading material for Christian Living classes and religious instruction. Presenting the Sunday Gospel by way of true-to-life stories, Gospel K addresses young readers’ interests and their concerns about faith. On the other hand, Gospel Now Magazine caters to late-high school and early college readers, but most adults will find it appealing as well. It is intended to make the study of the Gospels “layman-friendly” reflected in its slogan – “Everyday Gospel for everyday people.”

KAMADA 2014 is a one day event on the spot cover making contest that will be held at CFA, 4427 Old Sta. Mesa St. Sta Mesa, Manila on October 3, 2014 (Friday). The first place and second place artworks will be the cover of Gospel K Magazine and Gospel Now Magazine respectively for the December-January issues. Top winners of Kabataang C.F.A. Contest Announced

The Communication Foundation for Asia recently announced the winners of the Kabataang C.F.A. contest. The contest invited suggestions from students to develop youth-oriented slogans from the acronym “CFA.” The winners are:

Jenina Galang, 3rd Year student from La Salette of Roxas College, Roxas, Isabela, with her entry: “Kabataang Christian that Follows God All the Time;”

Steve Francis Mejias, Grade 7 student from Blessed Trinity College, Talibon, Bohol, who submitted “Kabataang Courteous, Friendly to All Always ready to help his fellowmen;” and

Kent Bryan G. Torres, Grade 8 student from St. Mary?s College of Catbalogan, Catbalogan, Samar, who proposed “Kabataang Courage and deep faith in God Faithful Service Abiding in and establishing unity, courage and hope to every person.” Stay tuned for other upcoming contests and activities.

“Why Do Catholics Worship Statues?” and Other Tricky Questions

Do you know how to answer that question? Try this one: “Why do Christians have three Gods?” And here’s another: “Why don’t Catholic priests marry?”

To help its readers handle “fast-curve balls from left field” like these, CFA will start a new series in the August-September issue of its Gospel K Magazine. Another Classic Tale sets tone for Gospel Study

In the August-September issue of CFA’s Gospel K magazine, a comics adaptation of the novel “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” is the lead story for a discussion of the Gospel for the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Luke 12:49-53).

The story, originally written by Argentine Vicente Blanco Ibanez, is set in World War II. It tells of a conflict within a family, between those who stand for peace, and those who advocate tyranny. It is presented to illustrate Jesus’ words in the Gospel: “Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father…”

Mother Teresa Story Opens Discussion Of Gospel About Following Jesus

“Mother Teresa of Calcutta,” a comics adaptation of an Italian-made movie, begins a discussion of the Gospel for the last Sunday of June. The Gospel is lifted from Luke 9:51-62, where Jesus describes the cost of discipleship. The story is featured in the June-July issue of CFA’s Gospel K Magazine. A study and discussion guide accompanies the story.
